Dance accessories are a fun way to add extra style and flair to a costume. When choosing accessories it is important in making sure that they coordinate with the style of dance and the costume the dancer has chosen. There is a wide range of accessories made available to dancers of all styles. Types and styles are broad; some of the most popular type of accessories would be jewelry, hair, face and body, arms and legs accessories.
Adding jewelry to a dancer’s costume can add a sense of elegance and grace. Earrings are an easy inexpensive piece of jewelry. When choosing earrings it’s important to avoid hoops or a style that hangs down from the ear. Styles that hang down put the dancer at risk for injury. Hanging styles can catch on items of clothing, hair, or other accessories and put the dancer at risk. Stud earrings are a safe solution and achieve the same effect. A necklace is another fun way to add to a dancer’s costume. The same rules apply as when choosing a necklace as it did with earring choice. Long necklaces have a high risk of catching and causing injury. Choker style necklaces are a popular choice because they stay in place and out of the dancer’s way. Bracelets and Anklets are another simpler way to add something extra.
Hair accessories are a fashionable way to add height to a dancer and complement the outfit. Hats are considered a type of hair accessory and can be a key piece to a dancer’s costume. When choosing a hat style, it’s important to keep in mind that the hat needs to have a way of securing to the dancers head. Secure headwear is very crucial in order to prevent a hat, or any other type of hair accessory from falling off during the performance. Other popular accessories dancers may add are; feathers, bows, tiaras, headbands, berets, and extensions.
Face and Body accessories are unique additions to a dancer’s costume. False Eyelashes are an elegant approach to add to the dancer’s appearance. Long eyelashes will make the dancers eyes appear to be wider and more open. Glitter stick-on temporary body tattoos are becoming more popular, but most are only able to be used once. Some temporary body tattoos are specifically designed for certain areas of the dancers, example being around the eyes, neck, arm, or back. Spray on body glitter is a very simple and inexpensive option; it will give the dancer the appearance of shining while on stage
Arm and leg accessories can serve not only as an addition to a costume but as a protective measure for the dancers legs. Tights and leg warmers are the most common of leg accessories and can be added to any costume. Tights come in many colors, fabrics, and prints. Leg warmers come in different lengths and colors as well. Both provide a protective barrier for the dancer’s skin against the dance floor. Arms warmers are also a popular choice to draw attention to the dancers arm work, and add another element to a dancer’s costume.
