Tutus have become a popular prop for photo shoots. Homemade and dancing tutus are seen everywhere. You can find versions in clothing stores marketing them as tutu-like fashionable skirts. While the authentic dance tutus are generally sold in dance shops or custom-made for specific dancers, adaptations of these cute skirts abound.

Adult tutus are often worn to costume parties. Just because a woman is grown doesn’t mean she can’t embrace her inner Sugar Plum Fairy. While traditional ballet roles can inspire costumes, many ladies choose generic or nontraditional characters for costume balls. Fairy princesses, angels and butterfly fairies are costumes that often incorporate tutus. In addition to lovely visions of princesses and angelic creatures, many girls opt for a gothic costume along with a tutu. Pairing a tutu with combat boots, fishnet tights, died hair, dramatic make-up and chains is certainly an unexpected twist.

A petticoat-like skirt made of ruffles is readily found in women’s sizes. Many lingerie specialty stores and online retailers offer flirty tutus. More modest versions are marketed across the Internet offering women a chance to play dress up. Make-it-yourself tutorials offer instructions to those who want to create their own.
